pentecost day

Sunday, June 12, 2011 0 response

Across datelines and country borders, millions of Christians are set to gather in prayer for the Global Day of Prayer on Pentecost Sunday.

Christians from many denominations will unite as they recite a prayer from 2 Chronicles 7:14, asking God to heal their distressed lands and countries.

It’s an exciting and awe-inspiring aspect for the Rev. Terry Pierce, who will gather with members of his church and several Odessa and Midland church congregations 6 p.m. Sunday at Life Unlimited Church.

“To know there are literally millions of people called around the world by God’s name has a tremendous power in it,” Pierce, pastor at the First Church of the Nazarene, said. “There’s not anything I’ve known about in my lifetime that has the potential of reaching fulfillment.”

The Global Day of Prayer began in 2000, when South African businessman Graham Power received a vision from God to call all Christian denominations to pray and repent at the Newlands Stadium in Cape Town, South Africa, according to the Global Day of Prayer website.

As word spread, the prayer day that began in Cape Town soon spread to the rest of South Africa and eventually all of Africa before spreading throughout the world. The Global Day of Prayer reached Odessa five years ago, Pierce said.

In 2010, Pierce said around eight to 10 churches were represented in the prayer gathering in the Midland-Odessa area, with around 150 people attending.

The Rev. Don Palmer of Life Unlimited, which is hosting the gathering, said that people of different denominations coming together to pray on Pentecost Sunday emphasizes the prayer’s message to God.

Palmer attested to the power of interdenominational prayer in 1991 after praying with several of Odessa’s religious leaders. Palmer said because the leaders prayed together, the city’s crime rate decreased by 40 percent.

“I am a very strong believer in corporate prayer. By corporate prayer, I mean crossing denominational lines, racial lines, about every line there is. There’s much power in this,” Palmer said. “This is an ecumenical movement. It’s not one denomination. Unity is a huge factor in God moving.”

Pierce said more and more Christians are gathering together for events like the Global Day of Prayer, because they are realizing that one denomination does not hold all of the answers.

“There are a lot of things about our individual doctrines that we’ll never agree on,” Pierce said. “But, there are so many things we do have in common, and we can come together so he (Jesus) can show himself in us.”

To emphasize churches working together, Pierce said Global Day of Prayer officials are also asking churches in the week leading up to Pentecost to form a 24-hour prayer chain. Each church in the chain will have members praying for 24 hours for God’s blessings.

As churches of different denominations unite in prayer, Palmer said they will realize prayer’s power in reaching God.

“Our country’s in a mess. When you look at all the things going on, God’s trying to get people’s attention,” Palmer said. “There needs to be some changes in our country. Prayer is one thing that changes things, especially when you can pray with people of different denominations.”

'Rumours' Fleetwood Mac: Look back and Present

Fleetwood Mac has become one of music’s most bewitching groups in decades.
The personalities by the versatile appendages, the behindhand the shots plays and romances and the marvelous euphony the band systematically created has never gave up to enchant audiences. Still, it's the band’s 1977 publish, 'Rumours', that follows chiefly creditworthy for Fleetwood Mac turning something of a mystical pop music acculturation refer.

Fleetwood Mac, best years

The band’s preceding record album, their 2nd self-titled 'effort', boasted newly members Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham. Issued in 1975, Fleetwood Mac bestowed the band the to the highest degree achiever any of it is members had loved til now. Tautnesses between Buckingham and Nicks, the McVies and Fleetwood and his wife, even so, cast into dubiousness the band’s ability, or willingness, to extradite.
Since the band start to tape 'Rumours", originally to be entitled Yesterday’s Dreams, the McVies split up after 8 years of marriage, and Buckingham and Nicks kept going to fight. Prior to and during the creation of 'Rumours", Fleetwood Mac came up to be mentioned to as “rock’s greatest soap opera,” and 'Rumours" became the soundtrack to the play. On all members putting up music and lyrics, the songs adopted the form of a central dialog that was bewitching to watch blossom. The more sensitive “Never Going Back Again,” “Dreams” and “The Chain” (though altogether still slightly bitter) ply direct contrast. Christine McVie’s “You Make Loving Fun,” a song astir discovering a new lover, completes a record album that explores the wide-eyed range of emotions of agitated lovers.

What merges the album makes up the band’s key signature instrumentation and vocal harmonies that have become the band’s stereotype on rock. With 'Rumours", Fleetwood Mac fully explicated ablaze, just about being adrift, yet compulsive sound. It has virtuous production and intrinsical sounds and lyrics, even so, has came through to a higher degree commercialized record album, and it's become a classical record album drenched amorously and love-lost songs in their purest shape.

Pope Benedict XVI declares John Paul II 'blessed'

The light of Blessed John Paul II will continue to burn in the world; for the former Pope was one who, always with charity and love, repeatedly articulated the message of Christ's mercy in great and penetrating depth. Through his love for Jesus and through his love for Mary whose "fiat" brought Mercy into the world, he will be forever remembered as a humble and living image of what humanity unceasingly seeks: the regenerative and healing mercy of Christ Jesus.

GLADE PARK, CO (Catholic Online) -- Today on this Divine Mercy Sunday the Mass for the Beatification of Venerable Pope John Paul II will begin at 10:00 a.m. As Pope Benedict has pointed out, that the Second Sunday of Easter, Divine Mercy Sunday, was chosen as the day on which Venerable John Paul II would become Blessed John Paul II is significant. If it were possible to sum up John Paul II's pontificate in a word, I think it would be "mercy." It is not difficult to see in the timing of his death a providential connection between the message of mercy, which John Paul II so eloquently and movingly promulgated, and the reality of Mercy displayed before the world in our Savior's open arms upon the cross -- an invitation to mercy which seeks to draw humanity into a forever-embrace of Love.

He will be forever remembered as a humble and living image of the healing mercy of Christ Jesus

Connecting Mary with our Savior's supreme act of mercy, John Paul II noted that Mary is "the one who obtained mercy in a particular and exceptional way, as no other person has. St. Paul affirmed that "the Gentile peoples are to praise God because of his mercy" (Rom. 15:8-9). Blessed John Paul II, through his love for Jesus, and through his love for Mary whose "fiat" brought Mercy into the world, will be remembered as a humble and living image of what we all seek. His words, his careful and masterful teaching of the mysteries of Christ's life, will continue to echo in our hearts and lives. The world will never forget the Gift of Mercy. Nor will we forget Blessed John Paul II who, always with charity and love, so beautifully articulated the message of mercy in great and penetrating depth. "Blessed John Paul II, pray for us! Through your intercession, obtain for us the ardent desire of our hearts: Mercy!"

NFL draft 29th pick : Bears take OT Gabe Carimi

College Sports News:
Bears take OT Gabe Carimi
Source: Fox News

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Needing offensive line help after seeing quarterback Jay Cutler beaten up by the Green Bay Packers in the NFC championship game, the Chicago Bears went behind enemy lines for help.

They selected Wisconsin offensive tackle Gabe Carimi with the 29th pick in the NFL draft Thursday night after failing in an attempt to trade up three picks with the Baltimore Ravens in order to select the 2010 Outland Trophy winner.

"I had a great feeling I'd end up with the Bears," said the 6-foot-7, 314-pound Carimi. "It's a great organization. I can't be happier than to play for them."

Carimi started 49 games for Wisconsin at left tackle. Last season, Carimi faced Ohio State's Cameron Heyward, Iowa's Adrian Clayborn and Purdue's Ryan Kerrigan and held them to seven tackles, two for losses. All three of those Big Ten defenders were drafted in the first round.

"We loved Gabe from the start," Bears coach Lovie Smith said. "Picking as late as we did, we just didn't know if we'd have an opportunity to get him."

So they asked Baltimore about a trade. The deal never went down, and the negotiations took long enough that the Ravens' time to pick at No. 26 expired, causing them to drop down one spot behind Kansas City.

Bears general manager Jerry Angelo took blame for the situation, calling it a "glitch" and said he apologized to the Ravens. The Bears said Angelo did not confirm the trade with the league in time, a deal in which Chicago would have given up the 29th pick and a fourth-rounder for the 26th pick.

"We had a disconnect," Angelo said. "There might be something said about it because of not communicating with the league in proper protocol. That was my fault. I called Baltimore and apologized to Baltimore and told them it was our fault."

Angelo noted that the Bears got Carimi anyway.

"It turned out all right," he said.

The Bears' offensive line struggled throughout the 2010 season, allowing a league-high 56 sacks. Cutler suffered a knee sprain in the NFC championship game loss to Green Bay and a concussion in a Week 4 loss against the New York Giants.

The Bears used Frank Omiyale, a former right tackle and left guard, as their starting left tackle in 2010.

Carimi has a reputation for being brash, and told reporters at February's NFL scouting combine, "I'm physically stronger and have more career starts and better knowledge of the game than any other tackle out there. That's why I'm the No. 1 tackle out there."

At the time, Carimi also called himself more "draft-ready" than any other tackle. Carimi was the fifth offensive tackle selected Thursday night.

Carimi explained Thursday that he is merely confident in his abilities.

"I just think he's going to bring toughness to our offensive line," Smith said.

The Bears felt they had a good handle on Carimi's confidence because offensive line coach Mike Tice's son, Nate, plays for Wisconsin.

"I cannot wait to play for Mike Tice," Carimi said. "I think he's a great coach and one of the best coaches in the National Football League and I'm just excited to play for him."

Carimi and the rest of the Wisconsin line paved the way for a rushing attack that came up 4 yards short of producing three 1,000-yard rushers last season. Switching sides, so to speak, and playing for the Packers' rival doesn't bother Carimi, whose family is from Cottage Grove, Wis.

"It's not enemy lines over here if you look at my house," Carimi said. "I'd say we converted about 100 Packer fans to Bears fans — where they should be now."

The Bears will go into Saturday's second round still needing help at defensive tackle and possibly offensive guard, as well as wide receiver and cornerback.
